Subject: RE: Singers session in Galway, Ireland.
I welcome all comments, but yes Galway is bursting with music, but not always what one desires. Many sessions are not true in the sense that the musicians are paid musicians. There is nothing better than a spontanious session. In many cases over amplification spoils the occasion. I prefer a ballad session to a trad session i.e. jigs and reels etc, that is not to say I don't enjoy these and a decent ballad session is hard to come by even in Galway. Again a ballad session can be ruined by those who don't care to listen or prefer to sing something else. I was at a session in Taffes in Shop St one night and the crowd drowned out the musicians by singing a different song! It was really a case of driving the rats out of a stack! Which brings me back to the session in The Crane, those present want to listen and sing. Total (well almost) hush. And if one is not familiar with or does not enjoy all the songs there will surely be some moments to treasure. Again enjoy!
