In the early to mid seventies, Fogelberg was part of the back-to-the-country musician inhabitants of Nederland, Colorado. At this time, Dan, Steve Stills, and several members of the Dirt Band were in residence, and the tales of parties and music sessions are the stuff of legend. This place and era was the inspiration for Fogelberg's album Nether Lands. Stills had a 4WD Mercedes that would be found on many a winter morning parked in the middle of the street or nestled in a snow drift, and Fogelberg said that finding Steve's car was usually a hell of a lot easier than finding Steve.
