Thread Name: Lyr Req: Today (from New Christy Minstrels)
Subject: RE: Need lyrics:
You tryin' to pick a fight or something, Shula? OK, OK, so it's a sappy song. But it's a song that brings back the heady feel of idealism of our youth. Come to think of it, maybe it was just hormones flowing. I guess that even way back then, I knew it was sappy - but I learned by heart so I could impress some long-haired beauty who just loved it. I didn't get the girl - I guess it's just as well. Don't know if I could handle a woman who liked that sort of stuff. Sounds like it came off a Kahlil Gibran poster, or something.
I still get stuck singing "Today" once or twice a month at song circle, and people never get the timing right. Guess I must be doomed to put up with it forever.

TODAY
(Randy Sparks)

C Am F G7 / C Am F G7 / C Am F G7 / C Am F G7 C

Today while the blossoms still cling to the vine
I'll taste your strawberries, I'll drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
Ere I forget all the joy that is mine today.

I'll be a dandy, and I'll be a rover.
You'll know who I am by the song that I sing.
I'll feast at your table, I'll sleep in your clover.
Who cares what tomorrow shall bring.

I can't be contented with yesterday's glory.
I can't live on promises, winter to spring.
Today is my moment, and now is my story.
I'll laugh and I'll cry and I'll sing.
