I have just purchased a copy of this double cd.
It has a very well produced booklet with comprehensive notes on the singers and their material.
The material covers a broad spectrum, ranging from Child Ballads, comic songs, lilting,a Recitation, through to songs about the Shannon Scheme, and the EastClare Election of 1917.
I particuarly enjoyed the singing of Tom Lenihan,Ollie Conway,Nora Cleary and Kitty Hayes,Iwould have liked to have a little more of the lilting [particuarly The Garden of Daisies,a set dance rarely heard in my area].
Each CD has a running time of 77 Plus minutes, contains some fine singing and unusual songs, which I am sure I will enjoy over Christmas, and anticipate dipping into to broaden my repertoire.
I have been involved with singing traditional unaccompanied songs and listening to traditional singers for 40 years, and would recommend this double cd to like minded people.
As contributors to this forum know, I have had many disagreements with Jim Carroll, however these CDS are in my opinion a good listen, and a good buy,.
Both the CD and the booklet are in my opinion well produced ,the booklet has comprehensive notes, with detailed information about the singers and the songs.Dick Miles
