The translation [in the KJV] '...we have seen His star in the East...' should more correctly be (from the Greek ÜíáôïëÞ anatole, meaning rising or dawn) - '...we have seen His star at its rising...'   Stars, like our sun and moon, appear to rise in the East and set in the West
