NOOOOOO!!!!!! Do not "shower"!!! Well, shower, but, keep the area where the staples were removed covered with Polysporin (Original, for minor cuts, scrapes and burns) or similar for at least three days. The little holes take a bit longer to close up than a regular wound because the staples were in for a week, or more. Until they close, you run the risk of infection.

This very thing happened to me in 2005. It was nasty. The infection even caused the usual healing of muscle and tissue to be degraded. Two weeks ago today, I had the same procedure done on "the other side". I had the staples removed a week ago today. As in 2005, the nurse said I did not need to use Poly or anything else and I could shower... just don't get too much soap around the wound for a few days (???). Sooooo, I ignored her. Once bitten.......

I kept the area covered with Poly until yesterday morning. Then, I washed it using antibacterial soap and water and swabbed it with alcohol. And, I am keeping a close watch on it. (The alcohol swab is twofold. It not only disinfects, it will "let you know" if there are any openings by causing quite a stinging pain. Peroxide or similar won't.)
