I do remember having to sleep on my back for at least a couple of weeks with my broken shoulder, but I had a much younger body then. It's certainly not my normal position unless I'm really exhausted and fall asleep reading a book. I don't remember exeriencing any pain after the first week but what I had were fractures, not breaks that had to be pinned back together again.
