Our very best friends live 400+ km. away, and have for many years. When we retire, it is very likely that we will move to be close to them, possibly an adjacent property. With very close friends of long duration, I find relationships don't fade at all, even if it's half a year between visits.

But I feel your pain - I miss those friends very much if I haven't talked with them in a while.
