What puzzles me is how someone can go through life without knowing that everything is composed of chemicals?!

... but then people in marketing departments don't seem to know stuff like that either (and they, in turn, must fool a lot of consumers) ... so perhaps there's more ignorance around than I thought?

In conversation, the other day I just happened to mention the fact that I had met someone who didn't know the difference between a planet and a star. There was a 'deafening silence' and then I realised that a lot of the 'highly educated' people around the table didn't know the difference either! It makes you think ... BUT how can people go through life without knowing the basics of how the world works?
