In my early twenties I had an inner ear problem caused by a viral infection. Medication (Antivert) helped but I was warned that the symptoms would return and they do periodically but fortunately only minor bouts. The first made it impossible for me to drive. Everytime I turned my head, the world spun. Fun.

As Liz suggested - be aware of what triggers the spinning and then avoid it.
