By all accounts Nanas father was a broken man physically and mentally but he hauled himself on to a stage and performed to earn a crust
One account nana used to tell was while he was a prisoner of war her mum paid the red cross money so he would get food this just seems mad it must have really annoyed her mother because nana wasn't born till after the war so she must have mentioned it once or twice [or a billion times] while she was growing up
