The latest (Jan. 28 2008 – why do magazines date themselves ahead, anyhow?) issue of Time Magazine has a one-page article on the revival in popularity of Sacred Harp singing. Click here.

While it's interesting, and gratifying that any type of traditional music is recognized in the national media, I found it disappointing that the article centered on the phenomenon of the revival, rather than on WHY people are drawn to Sacred Harp.   My own opinion is that it's the complexity and challenge of singing these old songs, and the unique nature of the resulting sound, rather than the subject matter of the hymns.
