The gastroeterologist that we use has a licensed anesthesiolosist on staff. He uses Propyphil which is a very short acting drug. You are fully out for the 20 minutes that it takes to do the procedure. However after that, the drug wears off very quickly and you are fully conscious and aware 5 minutes after the IV is withdrawn. You dress and walk out of the procedure room on your own steam without spending any time in a recovery room and do not at all feel sleepy or groggy.
