Several friends, Phoenix area residents, have summer or retirement homes in that area. It is up around the Mogollon Rim (locals pronounce it Mo-Gee-On), where Zane Gray once had a home. This territory has a bit of a "country" feel to it, I'm told. It is northeast of Scottsdale, probably in the range of 70-80 miles, and almost due east of Prescott. There are no other towns of any size near there. I'd have to guess that some folks up in that area have folk roots; maybe even a local venue. It isn't all that far from Jerome, the old mining town that attracted a lot of young folks back in the sixties. Many are still there, involved in art, small shops, etc. Probably music as well.
