Richard, I take it you are in the UK. Yep, there is a cultural difference with regard to vehicles if that is the case.
There are a couple of XC90's in my neighborhood, very fine vehicles but more money than I would spend- in any case Uncle Dave wants a large sedan (saloon in UK-ese?), which the Park Lane is. Very comfortable if one is out on the highway for any length of time, for 6 full size passengers or two kids plus dogs and their gear.
