Not really so out of the ballpark. He is more bi-partisan than most. He was courted by the Dems & considered switching parties at the same time Jeffords did it. It isn't unthinkable, especially because he isn't very beholden to the traditional Republican money, who backed all the other guys over him, in hopes of writing him off.
