I saw him once, solo, supporting John McLaughlin's proto ethno-fusion-world-jazz combo Shakti (featuring L.Shankar) at Newcastle City Hall circa - 1976?? An incongruous pairing, but needless to say Coyne won the day, holding down his bar chords with his thumb whilst holding the guitar nearly flat on his lap. Mesmerising!
