There is a light bulb in California that has been burning pretty much continuously since 1901. Makes you think that the on/off cycle may have more impact than the filament degradation while lit. Consumers Reports, BTW, makes a comment in a recent report that frequent cycling does shorten the life of compact fluorescents.
