I use a number of the tiny 4 watt night-light bulbs for various things, and I'm sure they last better if I just leave them burning. I have even done side-by-side tests in similar lamps.

Now the new compact flourescents SAY "life based on X hours per day and X number of on-offs"..but they don't give you the graphs.
