Can she go back to the Microsoft software and save the file again as something else? I haven't used that program, but typically you have the default save preference in the program then you have everything else. Hit "save as" and see if there is a drop down menu with other options.

For example, their old "Photodraw" program had a proprietary default form, but I could also save in jpg or git or tiff, etc.
