Thread Name: Lyr Req: Achill Island
Subject: Lyr Add: MY ACHILL ISLAND HOME
Here's my transcription of the sound file posted above:

(MY?) ACHILL ISLAND (HOME?)

1. Oh, the lights are shining bright out here on Broadway,
And my eyes are growing dimmer day by day,
But my heart it longs to be
Far across the Irish Sea
In a little place that means the world to me.

CHORUS: It's Achill Island so far away.
In dreams you call me both night and day;
And someday soon I'll cross the foam,
To see again the friends I love in my Achill Island home.

2. Once again I see your mountains, lakes and valleys,
Where I wandered long ago when just a boy,
Where I used to sport and play
And fish the hours away
By the little pool I called my hideaway.

CHORUS: In Achill Island….

3. I dream of you when light of dawn is breaking.
I think of you when evening shadows fall;
And I hope someday to rest
In the place that I love best
Where the golden sun is sinking in the west.

CHORUS: Achill Island….

[I've been searching for information about the song. I found the following, but since they came with no sound samples, I'm not absolutely certain they're the same song. There seems to be more than one song about Achill Island.
Frank McCaffrey recorded MY ACHILL ISLAND HOME on 2 DVDs: "In Concert" and "In Ireland." Peter Mylett recorded MY ACHILL ISLAND HOME on a CD: "Something Old, Something New." Western People says MY ACHILL ISLAND HOME was written by Lennie Grimes and recorded by Frank McCaffrey. Curtis McGee recorded ACHILL ISLAND on "Be My Guest."]
