Ordinary dinner ladies used to do that, and they didn't need to be nuns.

That never happened to me - I was one of the ones who LOVED school dinners. My mum was an excellent cook and couldn't understand how I could say "I wish you made custard like they do at school" - when everyone else complained that it was lumpy! :-)
