Subject: Tech: How to index and play music on a PC!
I couldn't figure out how to title this.

Do YOU have a LOT of MP3 files...or .wav files...or MIDI files? I do, so I was very interested when someone posted in a newsgroup about a little program which will index files......"one small executable file, no installation required
>- does not write anything to the registry
>- creates indexes for only the directories you select
>- you can define separate databases and decide which one to search
>later
>- indexing (and search of course) are incredibly fast
>- boolean search
>- built in graphic files preview
>- very simple and comfortable to use"

It is indeed amazing, even though it says it is 'Alpha'.... it indexed
my 'songs' folder & sub-folders- 10,000 items - in 33 seconds...then
searched on a word and displayed dozens of items in a second...then
'previewed'...meaning played a song or showed an image or text for a
selected item.

It does not replace regular media players, but it allows you to locate stuff VERY quickly, and to play individual items thru Windows Media.

Note: this is not just for music, ...it will index any part of your PC, but it is an obvious item for large collections of music.

You can have a number of individual databases and search all...or only a single one..etc. (I have main 'songs' collection on C drive, and Child Ballads on an external drive)
