I had an older Yamaha and when I bought it I tuned it up to standard pitch. It developed a crack across the bridge and became very difficult to play down the neck. I would suggest using lite or extra lite strings and tuning lower as mentioned above.

I currently have a Guild 12 that is tuned to standard pitch, however, I'm keeping an eye on it just in case.
