{Sung loosely to THE NIGHT THEY DROVE OLD DIXIE DOWN]

THE DAY THE RIVER TURNED TO BOOZE

There is a town in Lawrenceburg,

Way down in Kentucky,

Where the bourbon mill caught fire,

And sent the whiskey flowin free,

It made it's way right through the streets,

Down to the river bed,

Now the old Kentucky river,

Is the Wild Turkey instead.

{chorus}

The day the river turned to booze,

And all the bells were ringin,

Today the bourbon's runnin loose,

And all the people are singin,

Na-na na na na na-na na na na-na na na na na.

Downstream there's a little Baptist church,

Run by the Reverend West,

And he's standin in the river,

Way up to his chest,

He's doin his Baptismal thing,

To old Flora Clementine,

When she jumps up & grabs him,

Say's "Come in the water's fine",

{chorus}

Now Clementine's a hefty gal,

And the Reverand she did take'em,

Said "Let this river wash away our sins"

"As fast as we can make'em",

The congregation all joined in,

As the river was a greetin,

Now instead of goin to the church,

They all joined an A.A. meetin,

{chorus}

Now Monday mornin's laundry day,

For ol' Granny McCrey,

And she does it by the river,

The good old fashioned way,

First she does her dresses,

Then her underwear & socks,

Says "It gives a whole new meanin",

"To doin laundry on the rocks".

{chorus}

So if you're headed to the Bluegrass state,

Be carefull where you're swimmin,

There's a tributary way down there,

That's full of wild wimmen,

And the men have become heathens,

No one's feelin any shame,

The river's called Kentucky,

But Wild Turkey's now it's name.

{ch} The day the river turned to booze,

And all the bells were ringin,

Today the bourbon's runnin loose,

And all the people are singin,

Na-Na na majaladabakajatararaxazasafaxayahabaukajhnagy.
