Unbelievable. I LOVE THIS SONG. I've loved it all my life. Well, most of my life. Let's not get hysterical....I just Googled it for the hell of it...and got here.   I, too, first heard it when Col Potter sang it on MASH, and was instantly, utterly smitten by it -- I mean I was...beSOTTED with the song -- and have been singing it ever since.

There are only two songs that I know of that you simply cannot stay in a bad mood or get depressed while singing them. This is one of them. The other one is, "That's Why the Lady is a Tramp." I mean it -- try it some time. Just TRY and sing a big Sinatra finish to "That's Why the Lady..." badda bada badaaaaaah...THAT'S why the lady...baddoo badoooooo....THAT'S why the Lady/
