Sir John, I have character map pinned to my start menu, which cuts out some of the following process, I am sure there are shorter ways, but I don't know them. Each > is a click.

Start> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools> Character Map>

Leave font box alone, left-click slider to right of the square box of characters and pull down almost to the bottom, looking out for the symbol you want (there are lots) click on the symbol when found, a larger version of the symbol should show.

Now, select> copy> then return to where you want to put the symbol, right click and paste>   I hope this helps.

All this is assuming you are using Windows XP, though I imagine other Windows versions will be similar enough. If your are still on the TV-based internet box I am afraid I have no idea, sorry.
