I'm cynically thinking along the same lines as Amos, but probably worse. I hope all the scholars who work on this project have their life insurance paid up. Short term, I expect another round of violence directed their way. Long term, I can't get too excited. Those who, like the many secular-minded Turks who evidently supported the idea to start with, are open to rational analysis will accept this, but the radicals--?? I doubt that they are open to this sort of re-thinking. Bottom line: Those who will accept it don't need it, and those who need it won't accept it. The Reformation preachers may have convinced a handful of people, but I think by and large, they just gave folks a rationalization for doing what they wanted to do anyway, without the scriptural arguments.
