The way to test a cup of coffee is to place a couple of electrodes, one on each side of the cup, then shoot about 60,000 volts through the coffee. If nothing happens, throw it out. If the coffee bubbles and precipitates a bit, it's not bad. But it it leaps out of the cup and chases the current back up the wires, you've got a pretty good cuppa coffee there.
