Firefox has a built in spell-checker (it can be turned off - I don't know if it's on as a default or if you have to set it in the first place. Under Tools/options).

I agree it's better to write longer posts in Word or whatever, because it's too damn easy to lose them or send them prematurely when you write them in the browser. Well it would be better, but I don't do it generally.
