In other words Wesley, I send money to candidates, to political parties, and to political action committees. I don't always get to vote for the people who receive my financial support.

However, it is no different if one donates directly to the Democratic party or the Republican party, instead of to a particular candidate. People do this all the time, so I don't think my doing it is strange or unusual at all.
