Thread Name: Folk Tribute Bands?
Subject: RE: Folk Tribute Bands?
I was going to say that actually, Nigel - that all folkies (traditional or otherwise) are invariably paying tribute to someone or other by way of guilt-free plagiarism masquerading as 'folk process', or some other level of cultural reportage which is just fine by me, dears. Last night at Chorton I could have been on Stars in Your Eyes; Tonight, Les - I'm going to be Peter Bellamy singing The Housecarpenter - only I can't play Anglo, so I'm going to use a Black Sea Fiddle instead...

Corn Rigs was sung last night too, and very beautifully I might add, though the last time I sang this in public I was upbraided by some Wyrd Goths for singing it to the wrong tune, believing as they did that The Wicker Man soundtrack was somehow definitive, and to prove it one of them picked up a guitar and sang Giovanni's arrangement note perfect. Impressed? You bet.
