Sonnet 23/7/01                        DLXVIII

I think about your words, and dream of smile,
Though I have little cause to hope for care.
My age does not allow pursuit, and while
I may desire, I cannot your soul share.
I wonder what you dream, and know I seek
Beyond even concern: My heart has played
Out past desires, and found faint hope. I speak
But cannot say, though I have for words paid.
I know only you seem to understand
The passions of my past. I try to tell
My dreams, but few care to listen. I hand
You verse, and pray you understand, as well.
