Sorry about the length of this but one sentence is not enough -
From a sixteen year olds viewpoint the Sunday afternoon sessions in
The Meeting Place is something to look back on and thank God I was their to witness it all - The Floating Dublin Blues Band - and no one was more floating than Jimmy. Pat Farrel, Declan Mc Ginnis, Fran Breen, Redmond and Jimmy. I was probably one of the only non-"smoking" and non-drinking in the audience so perhaps my memories would stand up in court When Red took a well earned break it was Jimmys "chance" to stand centre stage and sing - not something he did too often. I think it was Imagine - but I stand corrected.
What I will never forget are the duelling riffs between himself and Pat - two totally different styles but a fantastic sound. I can only imagine what this sounded like to the drinking and smoking community in the audience- I missed something perhaps.
When I heard the news - yesterday 6 march - I checked out all the You tube links and of course it does not do him justice. I have some "snaps" of Jimmmy I took in the boat club in Clontarf last year after he played there but the qualtiy is nothing to write home about.
What more can you say - I am thankful I witnessed some of Jimmy greatness - AD
