This may well be a gender specific matter. My late wife Jacqui was IMHO a far better musician than I - but if you ask anyone who ever saw us play music when she was alive, she pretty well never did anything but denigrate my contribution(s).

Since her death people have generally been fairly complimentary about what I do. It can't all be sympathy.
