That is so right katlaughing, about the whole Dem/Repub thing there. West River, SD is like that too.
Some of our allies in the fight to hold back uranium mining in the area there included an occasional stampede of John Birchers, and a few Posse Comitatus types now and again.
The thing is, in the wild wide open, everyone relies on one another to survive, and families are well known in their respective communities.
In rural areas, life is never as simple as Dem/Repub, which is the least of it, unless you are running for office.
It is pretty cool your sister met Hillary. When I worked and lived in West River, I met the most fascinating people I've ever met, from Sri Lankan Buddhist monks to the Archbishop of Canterbury, to Rear Admiral Eugene J. Carroll to No Nukes rock stars like Helen Caldicott.
