I had only ever heard this music from the LP "Folk Songs of Eastern Europe" by The Pennywhistlers (1965, Nonesuch label) - which I absolutely loved. The sleeve notes convey that it is a St John's Day ritual, concerning young maidens offering gifts to Lado, a pagan god of fertility (but of course!!)
