In the last 40 years (since 1968), the US has had 28 years of Republican presidents and 12 years of Democratic presidents, 22 years of a Democratic majority in the Senate with 14 years of Republican control and 4 years of tie, and 28 years of Democratic control of the House to 12 years of Republican control.   Please tell us what you mean by "underdog"?
