Thread Name: BS: Nuclear Power in Alberta
Subject: BS: Nuclear Power in Alberta
Peace asked in another thread about the visit to Canada by Cheney, during which he talked with the prime minister and the premier of Alberta, and visited the Oil Sands projects in northern Alberta.

This morning, Bruce Power announced that it had plans for large scale nuclear power generation plants at Peace River, Alberta. I am probably wrong, but I wonder if there is any connection between Cheney's visit and power generation in Canada.

Bruce Power is based in Ontario, and its nuclear facilities provide 20-25% of the power used in the Province. The Company is owned jointly by Cameco Corporation, TransCanada Corporation, BPG Generation Infrastructure Trust, Power Workers Union and Society of Energy Professionals (the last two are large savings and pension-based investors, Ontario membership).
Cameco is the world's largest publicly traded uranium producer and also has large gold mining interests. It is Canadian-owned.

TransCanada Corp., traded on the NY Stock Exchange (currently about $40/share), owns 36,500 miles of pipeline taping into all major North American basins, and also is a large power generator. Its income from oil sands production is increasing rapidly.

I could not find information on BPG ..... on Google.

As I said at the top, there may be no direct connection, but along with Peace, I wonder what was discussed.
