There is a difference between accompanying and playing together...
Accompanying a soloist is a job for delicacy and enhancement. Playing together as a cohesive band/group/choir takes a great deal of practice so that one instrument or voice does not overpower another and that everything blends together equally.
Rehearse, record your rehearsal and then listen to it objectively or give it to someone who can be relied on to give an unbiased and honest report.
