This is an oft-asked question that should be in the FAQ. It's a good question, but it always has the same answers.
To the answers above I would add that there are some members who, for a time, specialized in answering lyric requests whether they knew damn-all about the given song or not, because Google didn't exist yet and because they were damn good searchers who knew how and where to look. They also knew how to post songs in DT-submission form before there was a preview function here for people to check their own HTML before submitting a post. Add to that people who still specialize in looking up long-unanswered requests so that the database will be a good reference over time.
Also there were and are people who refreshed requests before they fell off the day's threadlist page so that more Catters could have a chance of seeing the request-- these refreshes are now, I believe, automatically deleted. But in the long-ago they weren't, and they could really run a post-count up.
Also some of us used to do a lot of new-member welcoming and, again, that drove the post counts up.
So, in other words, the answer to the question doesn't signify much, actually.
