I am asked to re-post this and I do herewith. You never know, you might be in Edinburgh at that time. Many of us have drawn so heavily on and benefitted so greatly from Scottish traditional music that our (at least moral) support of this effort seems only fair.Abby

Please find details below of a public meeting in Edinburgh on 30 May which
aims to discuss the perceived lack of political support for traditional
music, particularly after the recent collapse of the Edinburgh Folk
Festival.Catriona Black

> Last month an informal meeting was called to consider the position for
> the traditional arts in Edinburgh after the demise of the Folk Festival.> The meeting was attended by musicians, former festival volunteers,
> members of the Adult Learning Project's Scots Music Group, members of
> Edinburgh Folk Club, the Wee Folk Club, Scottish Traditions of Dance
> Trust and others. The meeting expressed concern about the gaps that
> were opening up due to the loss, or potential loss of the Folk Festival,> significant gathering places and session venues such as the Tron and
> Whistlebinkies, and performance venues such as Cafe Grafitti and the
> Bongo Club. The other main point to come out of the meeting was the
> perceived lack of political support for the traditional arts. The
> meeting concluded with the desire among all those present to keep
> talking about the issues and how we might address them.
>
> A public meeting was therefore proposed, and this will take place on
> TUESDAY 30 MAY at 6.30pm at the Pleasance Cabaret Bar. The Scots Music
> Group has agreed to put out fliers to publicise the meeting, but it was
> felt that the most effective means of doing this would be by email. Can> you then please forward this email to anyone you think might be
> interested in attending?
>
> Looking forward to seeing you there. All the best,
>
