Shouldn't this perhaps be called the South East England Folk Diary? I was expecting something a touch more inclusive...

Yes, I admit it is a problem. When we started it in 1971 (Same editors, Jim Marshall and myself after all this time and 230 issues!) it was called THE BRIGHTON FOLK DIARY then we started to attract club advertisers from the rest of Sussex so after 2/3 years it became THE SUSSEX FOLK DIARY and so it remained for about 25 years. Then we started to get regular advertisers from outside the county and so the "Sussex" name was no longer valid.
We did consider titles that reflected the area that we were now covering - South-Eastern Folk Diary - Wealden Folk Diary etc. The problem was that by then there were also folk listings mags for Kent and Surrey and we did not want to give the impression that we were treading on others' toes! (Incidently, THE SURREY FOLK NEWS has just folded.)
This led us to opt simply for THE FOLK DIARY.
In any case, I reckon that we were the first regional folk listings mag so we have a right to the title - just as it's "The Football Association" and not "The English Football Association".
