I was in Tibet in 1979. The most striking feature of the people was that I saw only one person between the ages of 8 and late 20s. He was horribly crippled and prostrating himself before a temple. Enforced birth control and forced abortions during the Cultural Revolution almost wiped out the populace.

Tibet was a theocracy and in some ways just as brutal. But this was genocide. The same was true of all the ethnis tribes I saw along the way to tibet.
