a fine song, thanks for posting it. But I do not agree at all when you write you should have used colloquial German instead. It is much better as it is now:
- "Ich hop g'vist vas necht kumpt" gives a much better idea of pronounciation and of the German dialect used than "Ich habe gewusst, was als Nächstes kommt".
- some words are so old that they are not used anymore, at least not in that sense. If I read "g'schunna'" I hear an old meaning of "schinden" and that would get lost in a 'translation' to modern German.
- in some words that are similar in German and English you can see the slow intrusion of the English pronounciation and spelling ("g'flauwa" "misht"). That would be lost as well.
- And then, you can see how some English words with no good German equivalent ("gonny" "stirrup") have come into that language.

If yoe feel like posting more Amish songs, I'll love to read them as they are.
