Back to Cyrano...
I enjoyed both the Jose Ferrer and Gerard Depardieu renditions. I remember thinking that for the Depardieu one, they shouldn't have done anything to enhance his nose... at the time that it came out I hadn't seen much of the younger heart-throb Depardieu, and he was beginning to mature -- I didn't have the pre-conception of him as a really sexy guy. (I'm older now and appreciate him better...) I thought it would have been very effective for him to play Cyrano as someone who's not classically beautiful, but who imagines that he's much worse off than he really is... and convinces the rest of the world of that by his defensive behavior.
On the topic of swashbuckling, which is your favorite Three Musketeers?
