The History of Tim Horton's (A fable for your edification and entertainment...) a.k.a. Why you have to answer a skill testing question in order to win "roll up the rim..."
Well boys and girls, it all started a long, long time ago...In a land not so far away...It began with Johnny Horton, a distant cousin of Tim, and the song, "The Battle of New Orleans..." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4Q47i4zGBs Wow, wasn't that inspiring? Well, when those Brits ran at the Battle of New Orleans, where do you think they ran? CANADA. That's right kids, they headed for the cool blue north. Now, those early years was tough. But they did "make do" with a "stiff upper lip" for generations...Now TEA. They could make that, but COFFEE?; FA-GED-ABOUT-IT! So it wasn't until Johnny phoned up his long lost cousin in Canada, that would be Tim, the hockey player, and asked him to show those Brits that were up there how to make coffee. I suppose it was to make amends for the song that has been insulting Brits for all these years... So, in the spirit of forgiveness. They shook hands and decided to form a company...TIM HORTON'S. And so it was, with the steadfast British business ingenuity, good coffee, and American knowhow that a truly CANADIAN company was born! And in the spirit of generosity, everybody agreed that the famous "roll up the rim to win" contest would be a GOOD thing." But here is where you have to get to know Canada just a little bit. Mounties, Polar Bears(ya sees 'em 'round closin' time, rubbin' their big black noses on the windows), Maple Syrup, HOCKEY, HOCKEY, HOCKEY, Prime Ministers who punch out hecklers themselves...Security? I don't need no stinkin'security - Jean Cretien, Health Insurance, clean air, squirrels, lakes & rivers, mooses, beautiful women, the Spirit of the French, good food, Freedom, somebody STOP me!....And, of course TIM HORTON'S, affectionately known by some as "Tim Horny's...' So, with all this GOOD STUFF in CANADA, the government said, "look, wouldya mind answering a skill testing question for contests? Just so's we don't give it away, like the Americans? And we said sure. And you must be wondering, "what IS that skill testing question?" It's, "Do you LOVE this country?" The answer: BOOYEAH!!!
