It all depends on where the prospective jurors are waiting. If it's outside the courtroom almost anything goes. If you're inside the courtroom you best be paying attention to everything being said.

I was once admonished while sitting on a jury for taking notes, my usual practice at meetings; the Judge thought that my notes might unduly influence the other jurors, and that we should only rely on our decaying memories.
