Thanks for that about it coming from "The Honeymooners". I'd first heard it from an old friend of mine who smoked lots. He was reading a book and the hyphen happened thus: polop-onies. He was lost for a bit and then ended up in a ball on the floor holding his guts laughing (OK, I tried three times to write that sentence so it makes sense!).
