Art, I absolutely loved that film! Many folks don't know that the script was written by Heston's son, Fraser. Casting Brian Keith and Charlton Heston as grizzled mountain men was masterful. As an actor, it is easy to judge him by the blockbuster, wide screen, epic, part of his career. I thought he was wonderful in Ben Hur. But there was much more that came later that was very well done.

While I certainly don't like the way the NRA years are portrayed, and the way he allowed himself to be scripted during those years, still this is a man of strong political views, and who did more than sit and tell people he supported civil rights. He was a public figure, and an actor, during a time that supporting civil rights could have been very costly to him. But he took the principled stand, and should be admired for that. As to gun rights, you all know that I am a gun owner, and supportive of the right to keep and bear arms. I disagree mightily with the implication by Bobert that gun control advocates aren't trying to do away with private ownership of weapons. And I think Edmund hit it on the head when he called folks on their attack on this GG (btw, it's not the one you think). From almost the beginning Heston's stance on guns has been a part of this thread. Defending his stance was a legitimate response and in no way an attempt to troll.

He lived an interesting life.

All the best,

Mick
